It’s been a whirlwind past 24 hours that feels almost like a dream reliving an experience that I had three years ago. Those of you who have followed my pups social media accounts (Music City Maltese) probably already know that I lost my precious Sophia from an unknown illness after she began having seizures. She had her first seizure in April and passed away in June so it was very sudden and very traumatic. We spent thousands of dollars on tests including an MRI and two spinal taps which all came back inconclusive. Not knowing exactly what happened has haunted me ever since. Questions will never be answered because she passed away before doctors could find out what was causing the seizures.
Lollypop is Sophia’s half sister. They have the same mom. Last night Lollypop had a seizure and to say that I was absolutely horrified would be an understatement. All I could think was ‘Oh God, please not again’. I can’t imagine going through the same experience twice. Once was awful enough. Thankfully Lollypop’s seizure was different from the ones that Sophia had. Sophia’s seizures were mostly grand mal seizures that lasted several minutes and always required medication to bring her out of it. Lollypop’s only lasted about a minute and she was able to come out of it on her own with no medical intervention. I called my vet right after it happened to find out what we needed to do. Since she was back to acting normally we made an appointment for this morning.
Our appointment this morning went well. We had blood work done a few weeks ago at a wellness exam so we didn’t have to do it again. We did do an x-ray to rule out a cardiovascular problem and we should have the results from the radiologist on Monday. If those results come back clear then we will get a referral to the neurology department at the University of Tennessee. Right now we are watching her very closely and as long as she is not displaying any other symptoms or having more seizures we wait.
She’s been napping on her comfy little bed this afternoon…
I’ll keep everyone updated here on any changes and link the new posts to the pups social media accounts. If you don’t already follow them you can find the links below. Thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts for her today. It’s so comforting to know how many thousands of people are praying for her to get better. We greatly appreciate it.
